Kinship Analysis

The kinship analysis is used to calculate the probability of two persons having a certain degree of relationship. This test assumes two persons PK and PL with the genotypes K and L. The algorithm determines the probability of the genotype combination K-L under the condition of a certain degree of kinship for PK and PL. WEIR distinguishes 5 different degrees:

  • Full sibling
  • Parent and child
  • Half sibling, grandparents and child or aunt/uncle and nephew/niece
  • First cousins
  • Unrelated persons
